Wind throwing his hair about. The dulled roar of an engine. Tires eating up the pavement. An aqua-green pick-up with a wide silver stripe running its length zipped along at a comfortable 35 along a tree-lined backroad, destined for nowhere inparticular. Terri sat at the wheel, listening to the radio playing his favorite station: Oldies 103.3. One could blame his dad for his taste in music, but he didn't regret it, and his brother was the same way. He sang along with a song he knew, just driving for the sake of driving.
Well, I'm running down the road
tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on
my mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Actually, he only had one woman on his mind. The lovely, the brilliant, Artemis Saggezza. He'd fallen for her so long ago it felt like he had been born in love with her. And yet he'd kept all of it a secret from everyone except Seoras for years. Not even his nosy sister knew.
Lighten up while you still can
don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy
Well, I'm a standing on a corner
in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see
It's a girl my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me
Well that was one hell of a coincedense. Terri applied the brake slowly, pulling slightly onto the right shoulder of the road, looking straight ahead. He turned down the radio and stopped his singing as he gazed out the window at a retreating figure. A girl. She looked...wait. Artemis? Terri let off the brake and rolled forwards, powering down the passenger side window and slowly gaining on her until he was beside her. He was right, it was Artemis, but what was she doing way out here on foot? The truck stopped again.
"Artemis? What are you doing out here?"
