Lucy locked her hot pink convertible as she pulled into the parking lot, something that she normally didn't do out of lack of caring, and shoved her keys into her purse. She didn't know why she even bothered with locking the car; anyone could just hop in over the door.
Her white GoGo boots--shining like new even though they were over twenty years old--clicked softly across the pavement as she walked to the front door, and she put out her cigarette outside before opening the door to the coffee shop with pale, slender hands with fingernails painted a purplish hue.
Her fine blonde hair was loose and shaggy, and as she walked to the counter her yellow, homemade chiffon babydoll dress swished gracefully at her upper thighs. She fumbled with her Hello Kitty wallet before ordering a white mocha espresso and paying the clerk. It was her one day off from actually working this place, and damn it, she wanted her caffine. Walking over to a comfortable green velour armchair she'd always sat in, she plopped into it with a little sigh.
This just wasn't one of her best days.

Look at all this crap. What ever happened to just regular coffee? Who drinks this? As he scanned the menu, Oliver couldn’t help but laugh to himself. What was a Tazo Ice Tea? This all made no sense. Apparently Starbucks was the “cool” place to hang out and order frilly drinks. Eh? Oliver didn’t see what was so great about it, but it wasn’t that bad either. Any form of coffee was great right about now. Even a Frappe…whatever that was. He quickly dug through the back pockets of his worn out jeans, searching for a few dollars. Pennies, lint, more lint, ah, $5.00. Not too bad. This should pay for a coffee.
Oliver ordered a small coffee. Cream, no sugar. That was what would keep you awake. That sugar crap would give you a burst of energy and then you would burn out. At least this was nice and steady. He took a small sip, trying to get passed the heat, but almost immediately felt a little better. Mmm, coffee. Gods gift to man. Next to cigarettes and music. Hey, that didn’t sound too bad either.
Oli had been working today, it was freezing out. Working outside was never a good thing. This was a nice change, from today. Just sitting down and relaxing. What a very, very, very, nice change. He would go home soon and help out around the house, but this was his break. Oliver was going to savor it. He glanced up and the sound of a faint tapping. Boots? A girl around his age walked into Starbucks looking just as miserable as he did. Potential friend? Hmm, who knows. As she sat down not to far away, Oliver averted his eyes for a second. Oh yeah. That was all he needed. The girl would think he was some kind of stalker.
After a few moments, Oliver looked back at the girl and offered a smile. “Hello. Bad day?”

Lucy glanced up, figuring out that she was being addressed after a quick assessment of who else was in the coffeehouse at the current time. Her warm brown eyes found the figure sitting not too far away and smiled, crossing her thin legs and straightening out the bottom of her dress slightly. She looked back up to him, noting that he looked rather sweet.
"Eh," she said with a shrug of her frail shoulders. "Bad enough. But, life sucks and then you die, right?" She laughed softly, biting her lower lip and gesturing to a seat next to her.
"Here, c'mere and I'll tell you all about it, Total Stranger," she said warmly, patting the seat. "I could use some company."

Oliver smiled and nodded. “Pretty much, yeah. He glanced at the seat next to the girl and quietly stood up. Oliver’s vans made a soft echo with each step and his coffee was clutched in his hands. Oli brushed a piece of stray hair away from his eyes and carefully took a seat. Not too close and not too far away. Just right. Maybe it would be better to here from someone else. It would be nice to talk about things, instead of bottling them all up. Why not talk to a stranger? At least they can’t judge you.
“Okay, shoot. Oh and by the way, my name is Oliver.” He held out a hand and gave another polite smile. This girl seemed nice enough…

She grinned, taking his hand. Very old fashioned. She rarely shook hands with people, but hey, it was cute. Lucy tilted her head, tucking a strand of messy blonde hair behind her ear and brushing her chunky plastic blue heart-shaped earring as she went. "Hello there, Oliver," she said with a giggle. "I'm Lucy."
She cleared her throat dramatically, taking a sip of her espresso before revealing what the current drama in her life was. "I think I turned my ex-boyfriend gay," she said finally with raised eyebrows.
